Car Charging with an Owners Corporaton
Interested in purchasing an EV and installing a charger but your property has an Owners Corporation?
That makes it all a little more complicated, but it's not insurmountable. Luckily one of our founders worked in OC Management early in their career, so we can work through this together.
The key things to know are:
- If the property that you own or live in is part of a development with 2 or more lots, it is likely that there is an Owners Corporation
- The OC is responsible for common property and will need to review and approve your charger install request
- Depending on the scale of the building/development, the location and level of formality around how the OC is run, it could be that you will need to produce plans or marked up photographs, a formal quote, safety documentation and potentially a project plan.
- Again depending on the OC in question, it may be that this can be approved by the OC management via email, or it could be that your request will need to be tabled at a meeting.
- If the installation is approved, the contractor (in this scenario, us) would need to submit documentation and those carrying out the works on site may need to be inducted to the site.
Like EV's and EV chargers, the world of Owners Corporations is often veiled in mystery and seems needlessly complicated. We're happy to help and are even happy to set up a quick Zoom call to run through the details with the OC.
